Summary:

Philip grew up in Indiana, attending Franklin High School and Purdue University. He joined the Marine Corps in 1966.

Philip was courageous, possessing an aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger.

Philip was a Captain with the United States Marine Corps for thirteen and a half years. He also served with the Virginia National Guard at Fort Bragg.

Philip was a very talented person in many areas. He attended college on a track scholarship and continued running all his life. Running 20 miles before breakfast was a regular routine. He loved to play his guitar and wrote many songs to celebrate his children.

Orienteering combined his love of running with his skills with a map and compass. With his family, he traveled up and down the East Coast attending Orienteering events and he served as the President of the Quantico Orienteering Club for a number of years.

Home remodeling, landscaping, creating poems and songs – Philip was a very creative person. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts, raised Irish Setters, and hosted the 4th of July party for the entire neighborhood each year. We attended the Catholic Church together and he supervised recess at the Catholic School where our children attended.

Philip was like the Pied Piper when it came to kids. When he was remodeling and put in a wood floor to his home, he invited kids over to roller skate on the floor before he sanded it and applied the finishing.
